An Open Letter BACK to SeaWorld

The Orca Project

LETTER of the DAY: In light of SeaWorld’s recent media push, a former casual visitor Amy Costanzo, now a practicing attorney, cc’d The Orca Project on her letter to SeaWorld executives and shares her views on the marine park’s self-serving (and costly) attempt to “set the record straight“.

Well done Amy! We couldn’t agree with you more. You can read SeaWorld’s open letter to the public HERE (published as full-page advertisements in U.S. Newspapers) and then read the response from this everyday caring citizen here:

Dear Ms. Bides, Mr. Jacobs, and all other SeaWorld employees (including Mr. Jim Atchison),

Welcome Animal Lovers

Hello, and welcome to my blog!

Here I would like to share information and raise awareness of the inhumane treatment of animals. I think people often forget that humans are also animals. We just have the highest level and complexity of thinking. With that amazing power, we should use it do good in the world. There is strong evidence that many humans do not care for animals in the way that they care for other human beings, but why? Because we are higher up than animals, that doesn’t mean we should blatantly mistreat them. All living things deserve an equal chance to enjoy the amazing experience of life on this planet. With that in mind, I would love for people to know the many ways animals are mistreated through factory farming, entertainment industries, testing and abuse cases. If humans were treated the way they treat some animals, it would be seen as a serious and unjust crime. When animals are treated poorly, it is either brushed off or not talked about. Many people look the other way when it comes to animal cruelty. Others are completely oblivious to the abominable ways animals are treated. It’s true that ignorance is bliss, but why would you want to be ignorant? The more knowledge you have, the better you are able to apply that knowledge to life and values. Not all the topics I will discuss are repulsive, but they may stir the question of what rights animals should be given. There are many different topics when it comes to animal treatment and with this blog, I hope to invoke thought-provoking views and awareness when it comes to the well-being of animals.
